FAQs

ABOUT AHUA

Q: How much does it cost to join AHUA?

A: The annual membership fee is £1,025 per institution. This allows two members of staff at the appropriate level to benefit from AHUA services and attend our events and conferences. A membership application form can be downloaded here.

Q: How often are regional meetings held?

A: Each of AHUA's five regions holds meetings three or four times a year. For information about the dates of future meetings, see the Regional Groups pages.

Q: I've heard that AHUA members can join the First Division Association - is this true?

A: AHUA has recently brokered an agreement with the FDA for AHUA members to join the organisation. The FDA will provide advice/representation and public relations advice to members. For obvious reasons, it has not been asked to undertake collective bargaining, but there is the facility for it to represent the collective interests of members who might be affected by a particular policy proposal.

Q: What's the best way to contact other AHUA members?

A: AHUA has an e-mail discussion forum on Jiscmail. This can only be used by members and is a secure system where messages cannot be viewed by non-members. (See Discussion Forum on the Members' Area of this site). You can also download an Excel file of AHUA members' details from the Members' Area.

OTHER ISSUES

Q: Can AHUA provide advice on the protocol required to remove the Model Statute from pre-1992 institutions' Charters?

A: Gudrun Gilson at the DBIS has kindly offered to advise institutions on this issue. Contact the AHUA office for her details.

Q: Are there any development programmes designed specifically for Registrars and equivalent posts?

A: A programme has been developed for Aspiring Registrars in partnership with the Leadership Foundation for HE. In addition, the AHUA runs a coaching programme for newly appointed Registrars. We are currently exploring development opportunities for experienced colleagues. See Tess Brooks' article for information about all the above.
