Dear colleagues
Arrangements for the AHUA Autumn Conference to be held on Friday 17
September are gathering pace.
I am pleased to announce Dr James Wilsdon as our keynote speaker.
James is Director of the Science Policy Centre at the Royal
Society. He became Director of SPC in September 2008, after time at
the think tank Demos, first as Head of Strategy then as Head of
Science and Innovation. He has researched and published widely on
science and innovation policy, sustainable development, emerging
technologies and the globalisation of research.
We will also be welcoming Richard Armour, who was unable to deliver
his presentation on International Options and Opportunities at the
April Conference due to the ash disruption.
We have the traditional "guilty secrets" sessions on
topical issues and you can attend two from a choice of four.
The timing of the programme has been scheduled to facilitate the
maximum use of trains to get here and away. Booking is simple.
Please book your place by registering on-line through the following

A number of options are available. You can arrive the night before,
with or without dinner, and stay in the 4 star Lancaster House
Hotel (across the road from the conference venue) or sample the
delights of modern student living, either in one of our
award-winning eco-townhouses (next door to the venue) or in an
en-suite study bedroom in Cartmel College. (If none of these
options appeal, there are other hotels a few miles away in town.)
Alternatively, you can come as a day delegate. If you wish to stay
on for the weekend, we have arranged a discount with Lancaster
House Hotel and its sister hotels in the Lake District.
