AHUA Membership Exchange: Practical Initiatives to Improve Governance Culture

This event has now taken place

This exchange meeting is suitable for primary and secondary member representatives from all of the AHUA regions and nations including associate members.

The AHUA membership exchange events are small group discussions for members only. This session will be led by David Duncan, Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary at the University of Glasgow.

Governance assessment frequently focuses on the administrative and operational arrangements and discipline of good governance. The rigour with which the processes and procedures of governance are practiced, applied and understood. But there’s a growing recognition that governance culture is at least as important as the quality of administration. The way relationships work, the quality of challenge without ego, the ability to listen to and engage with counter opinions. While its increasingly recognised that governance culture is a critical aspect of good governance its much harder to crystalise the features of poor governance culture and harder still to work out the action plan for improving and demonstrating good governance culture.

This Chatham House rule online membership exchange will give you a chance to share your experience and hear others thoughts and ideas.

AHUA Expert Exchange: Registry, Operations and Secretariat as a strategic partner rather than a procedural function

Thursday 28th May, 09.00-10.00

Drawing on experience working at the centre of executive decision-making across universities in the UK and Australia, the session will invite participants to reflect together on the realities of the role and how Academic Registrars can operate not simply as administrators of governance processes, but as strategic partners who help institutions navigate complexity with judgement and steadiness.

Speaker:

Caroline Dunne, executive coach, leadership facilitator and change specialist
