Journey to AI: Moorhouse & AHUA Higher Education Maturity Assessment Tool

Developed by Moorhouse Consulting. In partnership with AHUA.

Helping universities take their staff on the AI adoption journey

Universities across the UK are under increasing pressure to understand where they stand on AI adoption and how to prepare their staff, students and systems for a rapidly changing landscape. The Journey to AI Maturity Assessment Tool, based on Moorhouse’s proven people centered AI adoption framework and developed in partnership with AHUA, gives senior leaders a structured, practical way to assess their institution’s readiness for AI and identify the steps to maximise the impact of AI.

What the Tool Offers

A rapid, evidence-based‑ view of institutional AI readiness

By completing an online self-assessment, you will get a clear, tailored structured overview of your institution’s current maturity across skills, culture, governance, change capability and future workforce planning. You will receive a summary of this assessment following completion.

A free, expert-led Journey to AI Health Check session with AI experts

With the online self assessment complete, you’ll have access to a tailored Health Check session with Moorhouse’s AI specialists to talk through your findings. You’ll walk away with practical recommendations and immediate next steps in maximising the impact of AI adoption.

Sector-wide benchmarking and insights

As more institutions engage with the tool, Moorhouse and AHUA will anonymise and analyse results to surface emerging trends, common challenges and sector‑wide recommendations helping the whole sector move forward with confidence.

Why Now?

AI is rapidly reshaping teaching, research and operations across Higher Education, but the real challenge is preparing and supporting people through this transformation. Moorhouse brings extensive experience supporting organisations from a range of sectors to navigate this challenge, informed by their Journey to AI People Framework. This framework highlights that institutions need strong leadership, baseline AI fluency, agile change capability, engaged champions, and a culture that encourages responsible innovation to adopt AI safely and effectively.

The Maturity Assessment Tool helps universities understand where they stand across these people centred capabilities, providing a structured starting point to build confidence, reduce risk and enable their communities across the institution to embrace AI with clarity and trust.

How It Works

1. Complete the online self-assessment

Senior leaders respond to a structured set of maturity questions based on the Moorhouse Journey to AI framework; we recommend facilitating a session with staff from different parts of the institution to hear their views to shape the responses.

2. Receive summary of response

Early respondents in April to June will also receive a one-page summary of their responses with some headline recommendations for next steps. This will be developed and tailored in the 1:1 Health Check.

3. Unlock your free Journey to AI Health Check

Following your self-assessment, Moorhouse will be in touch to schedule a Health Check session with our AI specialists to review your results and identify high‑impact opportunities to accelerate AI adoption.

4. Inform your institution’s AI roadmap

Use the insights to enhance leadership capability, build foundational AI literacy, embed effective change practices, develop champions, prepare the workforce of the future and foster an institutional culture ready for innovation.
